Is that weird? Some of the customizing stuff I do doesn't flow too well on 7, and the family's a little lazy with upgrading in the first place. Within this month I should have a new rig though.

What customizing stuff do you do? I enjoy Windows 7. And that's coming from a former XP and current Mac user.

That's weird. 7 is great, I would definitely recommend it over xp.

I use win7, but have it customized to look and act like XP, quick launch bar, task bar, start menu etc etc

XP is fine. I prefer 7 especially on newer hardware but XP is rock solid.

There isn't anything XP can do that Windows 7 can't do better. I used to do theming, too, and Windows 7 is just better at it. Hell, even right now I am running a minor tweak that removes the glass streaks from the stock Aero theme.
If it's the taskbar you don't like, you can set it up to behave more like the Windows XP and older one, with the added bonus that it will cluster the window bars for like programs instead of arranging them in the order they were opened.

More like running LS themes. I tried it once on 7 but it didn't go too well.

I'm still using XP on three Macs running Bootcamp partitions. I tried upgrading them to Win7 but hit a roadblock that I can't resolve. I think I'll ultimately have to wipe the partition and start from scratch. Which is not the end of the world, since my kids just use XP to play certain games. But it's going to be a pain in ass. And I'll have to buy three copies of Windows if I want it on all three Macs (I think). Currently they are using a copy of XP I got from the university many years ago. It allowed me to put it on multiple machines.

I hated the 7. On my desktop I too still use XP. But then, last year, I got a laptop for work and it had win7 installed and I had to admit that it's just much better. You get used to the few differences in a couple of hours, I promise. And I never get any issues with and program which updates, like Java or my antivirus or chrome. My XP is pretty useless now, something's always wrong with it. I'll upgrade it to a 7 as soon as I get the chance, and I'd encourage you to do the same.
And since Vista came out I refused stubbornly to upgrade my XP because I got so fond of it. I'm glad I skipped Vista lol, but the 7 is great. I have seen the light.
I hate the 8, though, I tried using it on my friends pc for a bit and I was very confused. I think I'll stick to the 7 for a looong time, like I did with the Xp.

Yeah, I hear 7 is much more stable. I'd go with 8 though, just for the sake of "might as well upgrade" when I do.

Whooa. I hear you can get OEM disks of 7 that allow multiple machines (?), but they won't have phone support.

Yeah, I think when I do upgrade it'll be most likely 7, as much as I wanna see what 8 is like.

Not weird at all. I'm typing this on a XP desktop right now. My laptop (netbook) still runs XP as well, the mediacenter I've hooked up to my TV runs 7. I'll upgrade my desktop with a new motherboard/CPU soon though, and that will get a SSD with Win 7.
With limited 7 experience I still prefer the simplicity of XP. I know where to find whatever I want to tweak. The standard search function in 7 sucks, I haven't found a user friendly way to make it as useful as the stock XP one just yet.

The only problem I had with going from XP to Windows 7 on my work computer was that since Windows 7 was the 64-bit version it wouldn't run a couple of antique 16-bit application programs I used all the time. The solution to this was to download, for free, a Microsoft product called "XP Mode" which runs a complete copy of XP in a window. It takes a while to load XP mode and it's a resource hog (that is, it makes the programs you're running in Windows 7 run slower) but once it's up it works great. As far as the Windows 7 user interface goes, I've got the desktop set up so it looks very much like XP ("Classic" theme).
I'm such a traditionalist that I create a subdirectory of Desktop that I call "bin" and in it I put shortcuts to all the programs I commonly use, which makes it similar to Windows 3.1. The advantage to this is that while you can't always get to the Desktop itself (for example, when you're running a program and the program opens a second dialog box, so you can minimize or move the second dialog box around but not the main program window), "bin" appears on the taskbar so you can always get to it.

Ain't nothing wrong with it. You know what is wrong? People being snobs about OS's, cars, phones, or inanimate consumer objects in general.
